Another Euro Millions win!

My syndicate had another Euro Millions win last night. It was £8.40 for matching only one correct number! How much would you have won with only one number if you were playing on your own? The answer is - nothing!

Sir, Can you answer a serious question for me? Why is members pay £5 for something they can get for £1. I know you have more chance of winning but this is more than outweighed by the smaller amounts you would win.

Dear Mathematically Perplexed

If you play the UK lottery on your own, you pay £1 for 1 ticket or £5 for 5 tickets.

If you play the e-Lottery way, you get 88 entries for your £5 as part of a syndicate - with 1 guaranteed number in every draw.

The syndicate always wins more that a lone player beacause of the multiple prize opportunities when playing with 88 entries.
